Summer Camps

Session Dates

Venture summer camp runs for 8 weeks (July 3, 2012 to August 24, 2012). Please note that weeks 1 and 6 are holiday weeks (marked with a '*'), which consist of four days of camp. There will be a reduced rate for the Holiday Week.  Each camp day is from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Additional extended care hours can be added at a fee upon request.

Engineering & Science

  • Dissection: Using the biology facilities in McMaster's new Engineering building, campers will dissect various animals.
  • Chemistry Lab: Campers perform an interactive chemistry experiment in a real McMaster lab. Each class will do a different experiment.
  • Chem. Show: An exciting and entertaining show involving chemistry experiments on Wednesday afternoons.
  • Unique projects covering diverse engineering and science disciplines
  • Health Science projects supported by Actua


A week at Venture also includes:

  • Tours and Mentors: Guest presenters on special topics, and tours of different facilities around McMaster.
  • Pizza Day: Two slices of either Pepperoni or cheese pizza will provided to all campers for free on Friday. Campers must bring their own drinks for lunch on this day, and packed snacks.
  • Theme Day: Every Friday is Theme Day at Venture and the campers have the option of wearing a costume based on the theme of the week. Make sure to check the V-Notes campers bring home on the first day of camp to find out the theme.
  • Swimming: Fun hour of swimming at McMaster’s Olympic size pool (Novice excluded). For the Novice class, swimming is substituted with outdoor water activities.

Computers & Technology

  • Lego Robots: Building robots in teams using the advanced Lego NXT Mindstorms.
  • Computer Lab Projects: Guided by university instructors, campers complete various projects using a diverse set of programs.
  • Electronics Projects: Projects involving soldering in the new Engineering building labs and additional circuit projects in class.
  • Comp Tech Show: New in 2011! This Thursday afternoon event will showcase exciting computer and robotic technology in an entertaining performance.
