Venture Engineering and Science is proud to be participating in Codemakers, a national program powered by Actua and Google.  Actua’s network members at post-secondary institutions across Canada will empower 100,000 youth with critical computer science skills and prepare them for their future roles as innovators in technology.

Grades 6-8

Utilizing dynamic computing skills, Codemakers allows youth to get involved at every level of innovation. From coding and hacking to hands on computer tear-downs, Codemakers will demonstrate what it takes to make our everyday devices tick.

Why Codemakers?

  • Codemakers offers campers the chance to experience the amazing world of computer science through fun, interactive programming.
  • Campers will receive in-depth instruction into the subjects of computer science and software development, learning to program from start to finish.
  • Students will be made more aware of computing and connections of computer science to the real-world

CodeMakers: Introductory

  • Intro to CM assumes that your child hasn't ever programmed before, so this camp will teach them the basics of programming in Lua, Python, and Javascript. They'll be writing programs that generates sounds and displays graphics, meanwhile obtaining  a solid understanding of the concepts behind programming.

CodeMakers: Advanced

  • CM Advanced uses the knowledge gained in Intro to CM (or a previous Codemakers Camp) to develop more complex programs. In particular, the campers will be interfacing code with the real world, via the use of Arduinos. So CM Advanced assumes your child knows how to use Lua, Phyton and JavaScript. It’s recommended that your child takes Intro to CM before taking CM Advanced however it isn’t necessary if your child possesses the necessary understandings already.
